Mid-Harvest and Success Abroad!

As the harvest continues in most coffee growing regions, and especially in Central America, our Beneficio in Honduras is full of coffee. We have accepted over 15 lots of high grade coffee, including previous Cup of Excellence finalists Rosalio Ventura and Rafeal Espinoza to name a few.

We are so excited about our work at Beneficio Santa Rosa, the team has really come together to form a special company dedicated to bringing better wages to poor farmers while improving the quality of Honduran specialty coffee by only selecting the best of lots to process and in turn export.

We have already shipped 10 containers of coffee this harvest and its not even halfway done! These coffees have touched port in Japan, Europe, and now in the US. Way to go Douglas, Adin and Peter!! We are so happy and we can't wait to see what the future holds.

As far as Mountain State Golden Roast is concerned, we are beginning to develop our stock and storage procedure to begin importing this Honduran coffee and start distributing it here in the United States. We hope to really put Honduran specialty coffee into the limelight it does deserve. Call now for samples or to hear more about Beneficio Santa Rosa, Honduran Quality Coffee, and Mountain State Golden Roast Honduran Coffee division in Denver.

Viva Miami Beach!!

I know you are already upset that I was able to get away from the 15% humidity and single digit temps and go to Miami Beach for the 2008 Tea and Coffee World Cup of Americas trade show and symposium but....I HAD TO!!!

That being said we had an AWESOME time in Miami Beach, albeit we stayed in Dania Beach, the weather was perfect, our hotel had beds to sleep on, and the food and surf was outstanding! Meeting myself and my father in Miami was two of our cuppers from Honduran Quality Coffee, Adin Manueles, and Peter Rodriquez. Two great guys, the four of us talked more about and drank more coffee than the president of Colombia!

We actually DID do some work, we were able to establish contacts for Beneficio Santa Rosa, S.A., and continue to tell our story and futher push our goal of bettering the lives of Honduran coffee farmers. We are trying to revolutionize the industry by helping to finance farmers and help them find end buyers, rather than purchasing their coffee and finding buyers ourselves. This will give farmers a substancial increase in price per pound, and it willl further our goal of improving the quality and reliability of Honduran coffee processing.

To you this means one thing: a better cup; but to these farmers it means an alternative to life in poverty. An alternative to taking what is given without any option. It gives them a starting point to build on economic stability, sustainability, and market effectiveness. This is our goal, and we will stop at nothing to give these farmers the best possible wages they can.

Winter brings coffee spirit to Denver

As we welcome back the frigid cold of Colorado winter, the loss of sun and long hours of light is somewhat bittersweet, also ushering in the return of what I call "coffee fever" to the mile high city and all winter wonderlands! Our warehouse is filled with orders from restaurants and cafes to custom roasts and organic blends.

As cups and cups and cups are filled with warm brew, people again return to their "safety blanket" coffees. Our pride and joy coffee, our own Finca Isis estate Honduran, has once again stolen the limelight from even our Fair trades, organics, and swiss waters. Its unique taste and expectable cup quality keeps roasters, wholesalers, and end users alike returning to get their fill...and fill others cabinets with our Finca Isis as holiday gifts. THANKS!!!

To wrap up (no Xmas pun intended), lets all remember how fortunate we are this holiday season, fill up a cup of Finca Isis joe, and sit by the fire on the cold and colder nights to come, and remember..."The closest thing to heaven on this planet anywhere, Is a quiet christmas morning in the colorado snow"

Is It Fall Already?

With cooler weather and some much needed rains in Denver, we are almost ready to call it Fall. With that comes news of the last few bags being prepped and exported from our beneficio in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras, marking the end of a LOOONG but great processing year for them. We were once again the main processor for the 2007 Honduras Cup of Excellence, and we are making strides with local farmers and producers daily! Congrats to Douglas and Peter for all their hard work!

That being said, I was lucky enough to be one of the final processing jobs from Beneficio Santa Rosa, and my last 31 bags of Cup of Excellence Finca Isis Estate is in our warehouse and ready for roast! All 31 bags are SHG EP, with a rating of 86 in this year's cup of excellence. All 93 of the earlier crops were palletized and shipped to a coffee company in Oklahoma City...thanks guys!

Finca Isis and our newest coffees

Its been awhile since my last blog, but I am excited to be holding our 2007 Cup of Excellence Honduras coffee! Our Finca Isis Estate Honduran Coffee has scored an 86 in the national competition...way to go guys!!! We are so proud of Finca Isis for their effort this year. In addition, I am expecting a CoE blend that will be made of our Finca Isis and some of Gregorio Martinez' lot from this years Cup. Expect to hear more about this in the future!

For our green customers, we are now holding 4 new coffees. This summer, I have been lucky to get my hands on some Fair Trade, Organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe 2007 late crop. This is truly a specialty coffee! In addition, we are now holding a Swiss Water Decaf Colombian Excelso as well as a Brazilian Cerrado DP for you espresso blenders. Both of these are exceptional coffees as well and the Cerrado has drastically improved our own espresso as well! The Swiss Water Decaf is a true swiss water and even for non-decaf drinkers like myself, its taste and smoothness is unparalleled!

Thanks for visiting our blog site, please feel free to leave posts, comments, etc. We love to hear from you! Also, remember, invite a friend to our website and they can register for a FREE pound of our coffee. Pass the word!
